After an overnight demonstration outside Jamuna, the official residence of the chief adviser, protesters shut down the busy Shahbagh intersection on Friday, calling for a ban on the Awami League. The protest was led by the National Citizen Party (NCP), with several other political parties and civic organizations joining in to support the cause.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam warned that if the government fails to meet their demands, they will organize a “March to Dhaka” to intensify their campaign. The rally received backing from a broad coalition, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, AB Party, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Islami Oikya Jote, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Labour Party, Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, Janata Party Bangladesh, Islami Chhatra Shibir, Anti-discrimination Student Movement, UP Bangladesh, July Oikya, and Inquilab Mancha.
The demonstration at Shahbagh continued into the night, with reports indicating it was still ongoing at around 10 pm. Protesters pledged to maintain their sit-in until their main demand for a ban on the Awami League is addressed.
