Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Friday described the signing of the July Memorial Charter 2025 as a landmark moment in the nation’s history, calling it the beginning of a “New Bangladesh.”
Moments after putting pen to paper at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Prof Yunus said, “It’s a great day. It’s the beginning of New Bangladesh.” He emphasized that the charter represents not only a turning point for the country but also a model for the wider world.
As the head of the National Consensus Commission, Prof Yunus expressed gratitude to political leaders across the spectrum for uniting behind the document. “With this, they took the nation to a new height,” he remarked, underscoring the significance of consensus in shaping Bangladesh’s democratic future.
The Chief Adviser also paid tribute to those who lost their lives or were injured during the July Uprising, acknowledging their sacrifices as the foundation for this historic achievement. “They, in fact, brought this opportunity for the nation. Let us remember them,” he said, urging the public to honor their memory.
The signing of the July Charter is being widely seen as a symbol of national unity and renewal, marking a step toward political stability and democratic consolidation. Leaders from multiple parties joined the ceremony, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation that the charter embodies.
For many, the moment represents a fresh chapter in Bangladesh’s political journey, one that aspires to move beyond division and conflict toward a shared vision of progress.
