Priyanka Chopra Returns to Indian Cinema With SS Rajamouli’s Mega‑Epic Varanasi

Global star Priyanka Chopra is officially back in Indian cinema and she’s doing it in grand style. The actor is part of SS Rajamouli’s colossal upcoming film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran, a project already being hailed as one of the most ambitious films ever made in India.

Wraps Hyderabad schedule, heads to LA for promotions
Priyanka shared on Instagram that she has completed her last working day in Hyderabad for the month. She is now flying to Los Angeles to promote her English‑language action thriller The Bluff, releasing on February 25, 2026.
She will return to the Varanasi set once promotions are done.

Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini
In Varanasi, Priyanka plays Mandakini, a character blending Indian cultural aesthetics with high‑octane action. First‑look posters show her in a yellow saree, pistol in hand a striking mix of tradition and grit.

This marks Priyanka’s major comeback to Indian cinema after years of Hollywood projects.

Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj and a globe‑spanning story
Mahesh Babu stars as Rudhra, a Shiva devotee on a quest for a cosmic artifact.

Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the antagonist Kumbha.

The story spans Antarctica, Kenya and Varanasi, and includes a 25‑minute Ramayana sequence where Mahesh Babu appears as Lord Rama.

Directed by SS Rajamouli, with music by MM Keeravaani, the film is being shot for IMAX and carries a staggering budget of ₹1,000-1,300 crore. The cast also includes Prakash Raj.

Release date: April 7, 2027

Priyanka’s recent work and future buzz
Priyanka was last seen in Bollywood in The Sky Is Pink (2019) and later appeared in Netflix’s The White Tiger (2021).
Industry chatter also suggests she may return as the female lead in Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 4.
