An Indian court has ordered Faisal Karim Masud the prime accused in the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi to be sent to jail after the completion of his 14‑day police remand. His associate, Alamgir Hossain, was also placed in judicial custody after both men were produced before a West Bengal court on Sunday.

As reporters questioned Faisal outside the courtroom about his alleged role in Hadi’s murder, he denied any involvement, saying only, “I did not commit this act. I was not involved.” He declined to answer when asked whether he believed he had been framed.

The court has ordered both men to remain in judicial custody for 12 days, with their next appearance scheduled for 2 April.

Faisal and Alamgir were arrested in the early hours of 8 March by West Bengal’s Special Task Force in the Bongaon border area. Initially detained on trespassing charges, they were placed on a 14‑day remand for interrogation. STF sources later said the pair confessed to their involvement in the killing during questioning.

Sharif Osman Hadi a key figure in the July Uprising and a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka‑8 seat in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election was shot on 12 December 2025 on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Paltan area. He suffered critical head injuries and underwent emergency surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital.

Three days later, he was flown to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite intensive care, Hadi died on 18 December.

The case continues to draw significant attention across Bangladesh and India as investigators work to uncover the full circumstances behind the assassination.
