Prime Minister inaugurates Purbachal Expressway project

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the ‘Poorbachal Expressway’ (300 feet) project implemented through the Bangladesh Army and Capital Development Authority (RAJUK).

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release that the prime minister inaugurated the project on Tuesday.

The press release of ISPR has written – Purbachal Expressway (300 feet) project is a groundbreaking step of the Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina in building Sonar Bangla, the dream of the greatest Bengali father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; Which was approved on September 22, 2015, in ECNEC meeting.

On the instructions of the Prime Minister, Rajuk under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and 24 Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army were given the responsibility of implementing the project.

The Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong highways will be connected with the capital by the 12.30 km long 14-lane expressway at Purbachal, which is one of the most beautiful and attractive expressways in Southeast Asia. The project consists of a 5.54 km long 8-lane expressway and 6-lane service road from Kuril to Balu Nadi and a 6.76 km long 6-lane expressway and 6-lane service road from Balu Nadi to Kanchan. It is specially mentioned that for the first time in Bangladesh, 5 gate grade intersections have been constructed at various important places from Kuril to Kanchan. Besides, under the project, beautiful foot-over bridges have been constructed at 6 important places on the road from Kuril to Kanchan. Apart from this, construction of a 12.30 km road from Kuril to Kanchan and a 3-meter 3-meter-wide walkway on both sides of the canal will also be completed.
