An Indian court has placed Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, in 11 days’ custody under the National Investigation Agency (NIA). His associate, Alamgir Hossain, has been remanded alongside him as investigators dig deeper into the cross‑border case.

The order was issued on March 24 by Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma of Patiala House Court in New Delhi, according to The Indian Express. Prosecutors argued that because both men fled Bangladesh before their arrest, the possibility of a wider conspiracy could not be dismissed.

Faisal and Alamgir were brought to Delhi from West Bengal on March 23 after a transit remand was approved. They were originally detained on March 8 in Bongaon, near the Bangladesh‑India border, by the West Bengal Police Special Task Force. Initially charged with illegal entry, they were placed on a 14‑day remand before being moved to judicial custody.

While being escorted to court, Faisal told reporters, “I did not commit this act. I was not involved.” He avoided answering whether he believed he had been framed. STF sources, however, said both men confessed during interrogation.

Hadi a prominent figure in the July Uprising and a prospective independent candidate for Dhaka‑8 was shot on December 12, 2025, on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Paltan area. He suffered critical head injuries and underwent emergency surgery before being flown to Singapore General Hospital, where he died on December 18.

The NIA will now interrogate the two suspects as it attempts to uncover the full chain of events behind one of the most politically sensitive killings in recent years.
