In a shocking development, the prime accused in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Magura has given a confessional statement before the court. The deposition was recorded by Magura Senior Judicial Magistrate Sabyasachi Roy on Saturday evening, as confirmed by Shahed Hasan Tagor, a panel lawyer representing the plaintiff.
According to Tagor, the accused admitted to the crime, stating that he raped the child after finding her alone in an empty room. The confession adds a harrowing layer to a case that has stirred outrage and grief in the community.
Magura’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Mirajul Islam, confirmed the accused was presented in court that afternoon. Meanwhile, the accused’s wife and two sons are currently in remand as part of the ongoing investigation.
The tragic incident occurred on March 5 when the child was visiting her sister’s house in Magura. Late that night, she was brutally attacked—choked and raped. Initially rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital in critical condition, she was later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. By March 6, her condition had worsened, necessitating admission to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was placed on life support.
Despite medical efforts, her health continued to decline, and she was transferred to the Combined Military Hospital in the capital on March 8. Unfortunately, the young girl succumbed to her injuries on March 13.
The news of her death sparked immediate outrage, leading to her accused’s house being vandalized and set ablaze by angry locals. As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning the loss of a young life and grappling with the aftermath of this horrific crime.
