In a significant diplomatic move, F.M. Borhan Uddin has officially assumed the role of Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Australia. On March 25, he stepped into his new position at the Bangladesh mission in Canberra, marking a pivotal moment in bilateral relations.
On April 2, in a formal ceremony at Government House, High Commissioner Uddin presented his Letter of Credence to the Honourable Sam Mostyn, AC, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia. The event, attended by dignitaries including Jonathan Muir, Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), celebrated Uddin’s new appointment.
During the ceremony, the Governor-General extended congratulations to Uddin, wishing him success in his diplomatic endeavors. In turn, Uddin conveyed warm greetings from Bangladesh’s President, Chief Adviser, and the Bangladeshi people. The atmosphere was one of mutual respect and goodwill, highlighting the importance of this new chapter in their diplomatic ties.
After the formalities, the Governor-General invited Uddin to his study for exclusive discussions, where they exchanged views on issues of bilateral and multilateral interest.
Also present at the ceremony were Gerald Martin, PSM, Official Secretary to the Governor-General, and Catrina Cooper, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, along with officials from the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra.
High Commissioner Uddin brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in the foreign service since 1995. Prior to his assignment in Australia, he was the Ambassador to the Philippines and has held key positions as Consul General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Istanbul, Turkey. His extensive background positions him well to foster and strengthen relations between Bangladesh and Australia.
