Police superintendents from several districts have called on the Election Commission to increase the number of executive magistrates in the field and to grant magistracy powers to police officers ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. They argued that these measures are essential to ensure a fair and peaceful voting environment.
The proposals were presented on Tuesday during a daylong conference at the Election Commission auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka. Deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, DIGs from all ranges, divisional commissioners and regional election officials attended the meeting.
During the discussions, SPs also highlighted disparities in police budget allocations during previous elections. They urged the authorities to correct those inconsistencies and increase funding to support security operations for the upcoming polls.
