Poland Says Only China Can Force Russia Toward Ukraine Ceasefire

2 min read

Poland has argued that China is the only power with enough leverage to bring Russia to the negotiating table and end the war in Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said Moscow is now so dependent on Beijing that China could exert decisive pressure if it chose to. “I personally believe that China is the only country that can actually force a ceasefire in this war,” Sikorski said, noting that Chinese officials have voiced support for a truce but must move beyond words to concrete action.

He recalled that in 2022, Beijing pressured Moscow to withdraw troops from Kazakhstan, showing its ability to influence the Kremlin. The question, he added, is whether China is willing to use that power now.

French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot, meanwhile, said the war has fundamentally altered Europe’s security outlook. According to him, the continent is preparing for a future where it cannot rely entirely on outside powers. “Europe is now ready to take charge of its own security, and the world has already noticed this shift,” Barrot said.

Analysts note that the conflict has become not only a defining test for Eastern Europe but also a challenge for global diplomacy and the international security order.
