A plane crashed just after lifting off from the airport, witnesses reported. Video footage showed the aircraft ascending over a residential area before vanishing from view. Moments later, a massive fire erupted beyond the houses, sending a towering plume of smoke into the sky.

Emergency visuals revealed debris engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing near the airport. Rescue crews were seen rushing to assist victims, with some being carried on stretchers and others transported in ambulances.

According to air traffic control, the aircraft departed at 1.39 p.m. from runway 23. It issued a Mayday call signaling an emergency but stopped responding shortly afterward. Flight tracking data indicated that the aircraft’s last signal was received seconds after takeoff.

The aircraft involved was identified as a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with the registration VT-ANB. Boeing has not yet responded to inquiries.

This incident marks the first major fatal crash in India involving a commercial aircraft since the country’s last aviation disaster.
