Pat Cummins Replaces His Iconic Baggy Green with Custom-Made Cap

2 min read

While some cricketers choose to repair their caps after years of wear, most prefer to keep the same one throughout their careers. Recently, Steve Smith had the front of his cherished cap fixed after it frayed on the brim following 16 years of use. In contrast, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins has taken a different route.

During the recent World Test Championship final, fans noticed Cummins’ cap was falling apart, prompting him to wear a hat in his post-match press conference. Ahead of the upcoming West Indies series, Cummins was delivered a brand-new cap though this time, with a twist.

Sources reveal that Cummins was unhappy with how his old cap had been repaired and specifically requested Albion to craft his new one. This is notable because Kookaburra has held the contract to manufacture the iconic baggy green since 2016, resulting in a slightly lighter shade of green. Cummins’ decision to have Albion produce his cap is significant, especially since the captain’s initial Albion baggy green was presented to him on his debut against South Africa in 2011.

This move could mark the last Albion-made baggy green, as Cummins’ request underscores his personal preference for the traditional manufacturer. While most players stick with repairs or the same manufacturer, Cummins’ choice highlights his desire for a custom piece, making his new cap potentially the final one Albion will craft for him.
