Passengers Left Hanging as Gold Coast HyperCoaster Grinds to Sudden Halt

Dramatic scenes unfolded at a Gold Coast theme park after the DC Rivals HyperCoaster at Warner Bros. Movie World came to an abrupt mid‑ride stop, leaving riders suspended high above the ground. The incident occurred on Wednesday, turning an adrenaline‑filled thrill ride into an unexpected rescue operation.

Passengers were stranded on an uphill section of the track, roughly 100 metres above ground level, before staff initiated a carefully coordinated evacuation. In an updated statement, a park spokesperson confirmed the stoppage was triggered by a ride‑sensor activation a built‑in safety mechanism designed to halt the coaster when irregularities are detected.

Throughout the stoppage, park staff maintained constant communication with the riders, reassuring them as the rescue plan unfolded. Guests were eventually guided from the safe‑stop zones and escorted down the lift hill on foot, supported by trained team members.

The park emphasised that such stoppages, while dramatic, are evidence that safety systems are functioning exactly as intended. “The safety and wellbeing of our guests is our highest priority,” the spokesperson said, noting that ride sensors and operator protocols are designed to protect passengers in precisely these situations.

The HyperCoaster, one of Australia’s tallest and fastest roller coasters, is expected to undergo routine checks before reopening to the public.
