Pakistan’s Auditor General Uncovers Millions in Financial Irregularities at PCB

1 min read

The Auditor General of Pakistan has revealed significant financial irregularities amounting to millions of rupees within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), raising concerns over transparency and governance. The audit report, which scrutinized the board’s accounts for the year 2023 when Mohsin Naqvi and Zaka Ashraf led the organization, pointed to instances of corruption, unauthorized appointments, and excess payments.

One of the major findings is the misappropriation of 63.39 million Pakistani rupees paid to police for providing meals during international match security duties. The report also uncovered the unauthorized hiring of three under-16 coaches at the Karachi High Performance Centre, leading to salary payouts totaling 5.4 million rupees.

Furthermore, match officials were overpaid by 3.9 million rupees, fueling concerns about potential match-fixing or financial misconduct. The audit also questioned the hiring of a Media Director with a substantial monthly salary of 900,000 rupees, citing a lack of transparency in the recruitment process.

In addition, the report highlighted that ticketing contracts were awarded without following proper competitive bidding procedures, further damaging the PCB’s reputation for good governance. These revelations come at a time when the PCB is already grappling with administrative challenges, and they threaten to undermine public confidence in the cricket governing body.
