Pakistan has announced it will not take the field against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup group‑stage match scheduled to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The decision amounts to a boycott of one of world cricket’s most anticipated fixtures but under ICC regulations, India must still follow the original itinerary.
Even though the 15 February match will not take place if Pakistan refuses to play, the Indian team is still required to travel to Sri Lanka, report to the Premadasa Stadium, continue training sessions, and attend the pre‑match press conference. On match day, players must also report to the venue at the designated time.
According to ICC rules, if one team does not take the field, the other must wait for the match referee’s final decision, leaving the defending world champions in a state of uncertainty despite Pakistan’s boycott declaration.
The situation has added a dramatic twist to an already high‑profile tournament, with cricket fans worldwide watching closely to see how the ICC handles the fallout.
