Padma and Jamuna Bridges Set New Single‑Day Records for Traffic and Toll Collection

Bangladesh’s two major river bridges Padma Bridge and Jamuna Bridge have set new milestones, recording the highest number of vehicles crossing and the highest tolls collected in a single day. The Bangladesh Bridge Authority confirmed the achievement in a statement issued Friday morning by Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Masud Rana Shikdar.

According to the release, travel surged ahead of Eid‑ul‑Fitr, with 109,025 vehicles crossing the two bridges in the first three days of the holiday rush. During the same period last year, the number was 108,002. Toll collection also climbed, reaching Tk 12.05 crore, surpassing last year’s Tk 12.07 crore.

Jamuna Bridge alone set a fresh record on 18 March 2026, with 51,384 vehicles crossing in a single day up from last year’s peak of 48,368. Toll revenue on that day hit Tk 3.51 crore, exceeding the previous year’s highest figure of Tk 3.46 crore.

The surge in traffic and tolls reflects the growing reliance on Bangladesh’s road network during major holidays and underscores the increasing economic significance of the country’s key bridges. As Eid travel intensifies, both Padma and Jamuna bridges continue to play a vital role in keeping the nation connected.
