Australia’s two‑time defending champion Nicola Olyslagers has added another medal to her collection, winning silver in the women’s high jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland. The Olympic star cleared 1.99 metres, sharing second place with Serbia’s Angelina Topić and Ukraine’s Yuliia Levchenko.

Ukraine’s Olympic champion and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh secured gold with a jump of 2.01m, edging out a fiercely competitive field. Olyslagers said the quality of the contest was extraordinary. “To have four women jump 1.99m on their first attempt, I don’t remember the last time I was part of something like that,” she said.

Despite not feeling in peak championship form, Olyslagers said she focused on the “simple joy of jumping,” and was thrilled to equal her indoor personal best. “This medal means a lot, because it showed me there is so much more to give even when everything isn’t perfect.”

Australian teammate Eleanor Patterson finished seventh with a clearance of 1.93m.

Elsewhere on the track, Australia enjoyed a strong day of qualifying. Olympic silver medallist Jess Hull advanced to the women’s 1,500m final after placing second in her heat with a time of 4:12.45. In the men’s 1,500m, Adam Spencer also progressed after finishing second in his heat in 3:40.79.

In the 800m events, Peter Bol won his heat in 1:45.87, while Hayley Kitching secured her spot in the women’s semi‑finals after clocking 2:00.09.

It was a powerful showing from the Australian squad, with Olyslagers’ silver setting the tone for a promising championship campaign.
