An off-duty police officer tragically died on Tuesday morning at Trigg Beach, a popular location in Perth’s northern suburbs. Emergency services were alerted around 10:30 a.m. about a “diver in distress.”
Responders from surf lifesaving, water police, police air wing, marine rescue, and paramedics quickly arrived on the scene. Despite their efforts, the woman, a first-class constable in her 40s, could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the site.
“It is with a heavy heart we confirm the diver is a sworn member of the police force who was off duty at the time,” police officials shared, extending their condolences to her family and colleagues. “For first responders, facing life and death situations is a daily reality, but incidents involving one of our own are particularly hard.”
The department’s health, welfare, and safety division will offer support to staff affected by the loss. The death is not considered suspicious, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
