ASEAN is a highly multilateral political and corporate association worldwide. A Bangladeshi has been named ASEAN’s “Business Champion” to promote trade and investment, leaving the Bangladeshi community stunned at the association’s last session. The person’s name is Dr. Noor-ur-Rahman Khokon who has been conferred with the prestigious title by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Dr. Noor-ur-Rahman has been appointed as one of the initiatives under Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy – Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.
As a Business Champion, Dr. Noor Rahman’s role will be to work on increasing bilateral trade and investment between ASEAN and Australia, particularly Australia-Brunei. A number of established business champions have been appointed to facilitate and enhance greater trade links between Australia and ASEAN. Business Champions will provide recommendations and implementation support to enhance bilateral investment and trade.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also announced 2 billion in investment financing for ASEAN. Business Champions will work closely with regional partners to identify, grow and facilitate investment opportunities, as well as help create Australian jobs by providing investment support for Australian businesses.
Dr. Noor Rahman has many years of business experience in various industries including agriculture, food production, marketing and food handling. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Ghanim International Corporation, Brunei’s largest state-owned food manufacturer for eight years and was instrumental in developing Brunei Halal production facilities and the Global Halal Food brand. Moreover, he has worked in Bangladesh, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates. He is currently the Executive Director of Pristine Pacific Australia, an Australian agri-food consultancy and exporter.
Dr. Noor-ur-Rahman Khokon is the former president of Bangabandhu Parishad Australia, and his spouse is Dr. Lovely Rahman, the leader of Bangabandhu Parishad Australia and Australia Jubo League.
