Noakhali finally tasted victory in the Bangladesh Premier League after a difficult start to their debut season. The new franchise had struggled from the outset, losing six consecutive matches and facing the threat of becoming the first team eliminated from the tournament. But in their seventh game, led by Soumya Sarkar and Hasan Mahmud, Noakhali Express secured a hard fought win, defeating Rangpur Riders by nine runs.
In the day’s second match, Rangpur pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury produced a stunning hat trick to bowl out Noakhali for 148 before the final over. Yet that total proved enough thanks to Hasan Mahmud’s exceptional final spell.
Rangpur needed fifteen runs in the last over, but Hasan struck immediately by removing the in form Khushdil Shah. After conceding a boundary, he claimed two more wickets to seal a crucial nine run victory.
Rangpur’s chase faltered early. Liton Das fell for fifteen and David Malan for seven, leaving the batting order unsettled. Towhid Hridoy and Iftikhar Ahmed attempted to rebuild, scoring twenty nine and thirty seven respectively, but their dismissals triggered a collapse. Khushdil Shah fought on with a quickfire twenty four off sixteen balls, yet his departure ended Rangpur’s hopes. They finished on 139 for nine.
The win brought relief and renewed confidence to Noakhali as they continue their first BPL campaign.
