Neymar Sparks Hope for Brazil with Double in Santos Win

2 min read

Neymar’s journey back to the Brazil national team gained momentum as the star forward scored twice in Santos’s 3-1 victory over Juventude in the Brazilian Serie A. The 33-year-old made a significant milestone by starting his fifth consecutive match his first such run since August 2022 and delivered a performance that drew praise.

Santos, Neymar’s boyhood club, opened the scoring in the 37th minute with Neymar himself netting the opener. Just three minutes later, Alvaro Barreal added a second for the hosts. Despite Juventude pulling one back before halftime, Santos held firm. Neymar sealed the win with a penalty goal in the 80th minute, securing the victory and ending a three-match winless streak for the team, which includes two losses and a draw. Santos now has 18 points from 17 matches, sitting 15th in the league table.

This resurgence comes as Neymar aims to earn his spot on the Brazilian national team again after a long injury layoff. He suffered a serious knee ligament injury against Uruguay in October 2023, sidelining him for months. Earlier this year, Neymar left Saudi club Al Hilal and returned to Santos in a bid to regain form and fitness.

Post-match, Neymar expressed confidence, saying, “Everyone knows what I’m capable of. I feel good, I’m ready to play. Now it’s up to the Brazil staff whether they call me or not.” With national team coach Carlo Ancelotti watching closely, Neymar’s impressive display against Juventude serves as a strong reminder of his talent and desire to don the Selecao shirt once again.
