NewJeans Turmoil Deepens as Danielle Faces Multimillion Dollar Lawsuit

2 min read

Australian K pop star Danielle Marsh is facing a lawsuit worth about 44.8 million dollars after her contract with her group’s record label was terminated. Danielle, who was born in Newcastle, was removed from NewJeans following the decision.

The label announced it would pursue legal action against Danielle, a family member and former chief executive Min Hee jin, accusing them of breaching contractual obligations. The remaining members of NewJeans are Hanni, Minji, Haerin and Hyein.

NewJeans rose to global fame almost immediately after debuting in 2022, becoming the eighth biggest selling act in the world within a year. In 2024, the group declared its intention to leave the label, alleging workplace harassment, claims the agency rejected. A court later ruled the group must remain under the agency’s management until 2029.

The label has since cut ties with Danielle and now argues she played a major role in the breakdown of the relationship between the agency and the group. Fans have rallied behind her online, repeating the message: NewJeans is five or nothing.

How the Conflict Escalated

The dispute traces back to April 2024, when the parent company accused Min Hee jin of trying to seize control of the label and take NewJeans independent. Min denied the allegations and held a press conference to defend herself. A police report soon followed, triggering a legal battle.

All five members of NewJeans publicly supported Min, backing her petition against efforts to remove her as chief executive. Reports later revealed that Danielle had written a handwritten letter to Min expressing a deep emotional bond, which observers said signaled her loyalty during the conflict.

The situation has since spiraled into one of the most dramatic disputes the K pop industry has seen in years, with legal, financial and personal tensions still unfolding.
