A Newcastle man has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly tackling a 46-year-old who later died from a spinal injury.
Emergency services were called to a home on Lovell Street in Cardiff, Lake Macquarie, on May 22 following reports that a man had suffered a serious spinal injury and was unable to move.
The victim was taken to John Hunter Hospital before being transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in critical condition. He died on June 2.
Police launched an investigation soon after his death. On Thursday, officers arrested a 48-year-old man at his home in Shortland and took him into custody.
Authorities allege the victim sustained the fatal injury after being tackled by the accused. The man has now been formally charged with manslaughter.
