Additional information has surfaced against banned leaders and activists associated with the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, accused of illegal guerrilla training. Among those arrested is Sumaiya Jafrin, wife of Major Sadik. She was brought to Vatara police station and has been formally detained under anti-terrorism laws. On Thursday afternoon, she was produced before a court, where a remand application was filed.
Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan of the Gulshan Detective Division confirmed that a case was filed at Vatara police station, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Sumaiya Jafrin. He stated, “She will be presented in court this Thursday evening, and a remand hearing will be requested.”
Initially, she was taken into custody by the Detective Branch late Wednesday night and later held at their Minto Road office. Prior to her arrest, police acted on intelligence that revealed a secret meeting near Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka. Based on this information, members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 22 leaders and activists linked to the banned Awami League, banned Chhatra League, and other affiliated groups.
Police authorities have emphasized that the investigation is led by the Detective Branch, focusing on uncovering the extent of the conspiracy and propaganda aimed at destabilizing the country. The ongoing inquiry aims to delve into the roots of this alleged plot and examine how these activities threaten national stability amidst current political unrest.
