NCP Leaders Meet Chief Election Commissioner at Election Building

A delegation from the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) visited the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday morning at around 10:30 am to meet with the Chief Election Commissioner. The team included five members: Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patowary, South Zone Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah, North Zone Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, along with others. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the issue of electoral symbols.

Last week, the Election Commission released a new list of 115 symbols, excluding the lotus symbol, which was previously part of the list. The NCP representatives are now seeking to express their views on the removal of the lotus symbol from the list. They arrived at the Election Building on Sunday morning to participate in this crucial discussion.

It is noteworthy that during last week’s revision of the election conduct rules, the EC excluded the lotus symbol from the official list of symbols, which previously included 115 options. Earlier, on June 22, the NCP had submitted its registration application requesting the lotus symbol. A few days prior, on April 17, the Citizens’ Unity led by Mahmudur Rahman also requested the same symbol. Both parties had held multiple meetings with the Election Commission regarding the lotus symbol, but ultimately, the EC decided not to include it in the list.

This meeting with the NCP is an important part of the ongoing discussion about electoral symbols. The party remains hopeful that a solution will be reached soon, and the dispute or controversy over the symbol will be resolved in the future.
