Naomi Scott on the dark side of fame in ‘Smile 2’

British actress and singer Naomi Scott, who played Princess Jasmine in the glossy fantasy Aladdin, has shifted gears dramatically in her upcoming horror film Smile 2.

She plays Skye Riley, a troubled pop singer whose life unravels when she begins to experience terrifying events. The role was emotionally and physically taxing, but she welcomed the challenge.

Director Parker Finn’s Smile 2 picks up where the original psychological horror hit left off. This time, instead of a psychiatrist haunted by malevolent forces, it’s a famous pop icon who feels trapped in a world that seems out to get her—she’s convinced that dark forces are working to end her life.

Known for playing Princess Jasmine in the live-action “Aladdin,” the British Indian actress is stepping into the horror genre in a big way with “Smile 2,” bringing raw intensity and energy to the big screen.

Parker Finn once again writes and directs the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster horror film which featured a terrifying story

“It was very difficult, it was a difficult movie,” Scott said on the challenges of filming the movie. “But I actually feel blessed because first of all, I had an incredible support network.”

“Smile 2” comes out in the Philippines on Oct. 16 and in the U.S. on Oct. 18.
