Mustafizur Rahman Joins Dubai Capitals for ILT20 Debut Amid NOC Uncertainty

2 min read

Bangladesh’s left-arm pace maestro Mustafizur Rahman is set to make his debut in the International League T20 (ILT20) after being signed by the Dubai Capitals for the upcoming season. The franchise confirmed his inclusion as a replacement for England’s Luke Wood, ahead of the tournament’s December 2 kickoff.

This marks Mustafizur’s sixth appearance in an overseas franchise league, adding to his impressive résumé that includes stints in the IPL, PSL, LPL, and England’s Vitality Blast. Known for his deceptive cutters and calm under pressure, Mustafizur has taken 362 wickets in 289 T20 matches, with an economy rate of 7.45 making him one of the most consistent performers in the format.

However, his participation in ILT20 hinges on a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as the tournament overlaps with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The BCB has previously restricted player availability for foreign leagues during domestic commitments, raising questions about whether Mustafizur will be cleared to play.

The Dubai Capitals, defending champions of the ILT20, have bolstered their squad with several international stars, including Gulbadin Naib, Dasun Shanaka, Dushmantha Chameera, Rovman Powell, and Shai Hope. Mustafizur’s addition adds further depth to their bowling attack, and fans are eager to see how he adapts to the UAE conditions.

With the ILT20 auction scheduled for September 30 and the final set for January 4, all eyes are now on the BCB’s decision. If cleared, Mustafizur’s presence could be a game-changer for the Capitals and another chapter in the remarkable journey of Bangladesh’s pace sensation.
