Murder case filed against Sheikh Hasina

A murder case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six others in connection with the death of grocery shop owner Abu Saeed in police firing in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on July 19.

Amir Hamza Shatir, a resident of Mohammadpur, filed the case in the Dhaka Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury court.

Confirming the matter, Advocate Md Mamun Miah on Tuesday said the other accused are- Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, and former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker.

Besides, several unnamed high police officials and government officials have also been made accused in the case, the advocate said. In his complaint, Amir said Abu Saeed was killed when police opened fire indiscriminately on students and civilians during a protest against quota reforms on July 19 at around 4 pm. The police opened fire on people on the orders of the IGP and the then-interior minister.
