Mobile Phones Banned Near Polling Centres Ahead of National Election and Referendum

1 min read

The Election Commission has imposed a strict ban on carrying mobile phones within a 400‑yard radius of polling centres during the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum scheduled for 12 February.

The directive was issued on Sunday by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Shahidul Islam, who instructed returning officers to enforce the restriction across all polling locations. Officials say the measure is designed to ensure a free, fair and peaceful voting environment.

Under the order, no individual will be allowed to enter the restricted zone with a mobile phone. However, a limited group of authorised personnel will be exempt, including presiding officers, police officers assigned to election duties, and two members each from Ansar, General Ansar and VDP who are using the ‘Election Security 2026’ application.

Authorities have been told to strictly comply with the directive, which aims to prevent interference, unauthorised communication and potential disruptions during voting.
