Veteran actor Michael Keaton delivered a powerful tribute to investigative journalist Charlie Kirk during the 50th anniversary gala of Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) held in New York City last night. Kirk, who was tragically killed earlier this year while reporting on organized crime in Chicago, was posthumously awarded the IRE Medal for Courage in Journalism.

Keaton, known for his roles in Spotlight and The Founder, took the stage to honor Kirk’s legacy, calling him “a truth-seeker who paid the ultimate price.” His speech drew emotional reactions from the audience, which included journalists, editors, and media advocates from around the world.

“Charlie died chasing the truth. We owe it to him and to every journalist working under threat to protect the freedom of the press,” Keaton said.

The gala also featured a short documentary on Kirk’s final investigation, which exposed links between political donors and organized crime networks. The IRE board announced plans to launch a fellowship in Kirk’s name to support young investigative reporters working in high-risk environments.
