Met Gala 2025 Turns Spotlight on Kerala-Crafted Blue Carpet, Signaling a Quiet Revolution

2 min read

The 2025 Met Gala was not just a night of high fashion and viral moments, it was a spectacle that left a lasting impression on the global stage. From Diljit Dosanjh shimmering like a walking treasure chest in jewels, to Shah Rukh Khan causing a frenzy when Western journalists failed to recognize Bollywood royalty, and Blackpink’s unforgettable no-pants look, the event was bursting with drama, bling, and meme-worthy moments.

Beneath the glitter and chaos, however, a quieter revolution was taking shape. The iconic red carpet was swapped for a regal blue beauty, crafted entirely in Kerala, South India. Meet Sivam Santhosh, the founder and CEO of Neytt, and his wife Nimisha Srinivas, who spearheaded the mammoth task of creating what has become one of the most photographed surfaces in pop culture history.

Media caught up with Santhosh over the phone in Kerala, still riding high from the event. “It took 90 days and 500 people worked on it,” he shared, visibly proud. “Because it’s a wall-to-wall carpet, even the tiniest impurities are very visible. We make sure everything is perfect so nobody trips or falls.”

He explained that the process began with a base carpet in plain white. “Then, after we sent it to New York, artists hand-painted it to give it the final look and feel,” Santhosh added, emphasizing the precision and craftsmanship involved in creating such a masterpiece.

This project marks Santhosh’s biggest moment on the global stage, but he’s no stranger to working with the elite. “We also once supplied the carpet for a special concert at the White House when a head of state visited,” he said casually, highlighting his experience in crafting luxury surfaces for some of the world’s most prestigious events.

As India’s craftsmanship takes center stage on the global fashion scene, Santhosh’s Kerala-made carpet stands as a testament to the artistry and precision that Indian artisans bring to the world’s biggest runways.
