In a dazzling display, Kylian Mbappe scored a stunning goal and assisted another as Real Madrid triumphed over Sevilla with a convincing 4-2 victory on Saturday, propelling them to second place in La Liga, just behind Atletico Madrid.
With Barcelona faltering against Atletico, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad seized the opportunity for a comfortable home win, leaving them just a point shy of the league leaders. Ancelotti had previously stated that Mbappe’s adjustment period following his summer transfer from Paris Saint-Germain was complete, and the French superstar certainly validated that claim with his impressive performance, marking his 14th goal of the season across all competitions.
Fede Valverde also contributed to the scoreline with a spectacular long-range strike, while Rodrygo Goes and Brahim Diaz found the net for Madrid as well. On the other side, Sevilla’s Isaac Romero and Dodi Lukebakio managed to score, but the team was largely outclassed, especially in veteran defender Jesus Navas’ final outing for the club.
The match kicked off with a bang as Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 10th minute. After Madrid transitioned the ball from the back, Rodrygo received it on the left flank and squared it to Mbappe. With a deft touch to control the ball, he set himself up before unleashing a powerful shot that left Alvaro Fernandez with no chance.
Madrid doubled their lead just ten minutes later when Valverde unleashed a rocket from over 30 yards out, finding the top corner after a cleverly executed short corner. The hosts showcased their attacking prowess, and in the 34th minute, Lucas Vazquez delivered a cross that Rodrygo finished with finesse, extending Madrid’s lead.
Sevilla managed to respond quickly, with Romero heading in from Juanlu Sanchez’s cross following a well-executed move involving Lukebakio, but it was clear that Madrid was in control throughout the match.
