Massive Wildfire Erupts in Nagaland’s Dzükou Valley

1 min read

A devastating wildfire has broken out in the scenic Dzükou Valley of Nagaland, burning for three consecutive days and engulfing large parts of the area.

According to local administration reports cited by The Hindu, the fire began last Friday due to the negligence of four local trekkers. They had pitched a tent and lit a campfire before leaving in search of water. On returning, they found the flames spreading rapidly and became trapped. The trekkers were rescued on Saturday, but by then the fire had already spread across nearly 1.3 square kilometers.

During initial questioning, the trekkers admitted to lighting the campfire. Authorities say the exact extent of the wildfire is still uncertain, but dry weather and strong winds are fueling its rapid expansion.

Disaster response teams from Kohima district are attempting to contain the blaze, but the rugged terrain and lack of road access have prevented fire trucks from reaching the site.
