Thousands of people marched through the streets of Amsterdam on Sunday, October 5, braving heavy rain to demand an end to Israel’s military offensive in Gaza. Protesters of all ages joined the six-kilometre march, waving Palestinian flags and carrying placards that read, “Free, Free Palestine,” “Shame on Israel,” and “We are not free until Gaza is free.”
Among the demonstrators was 27-year-old Dutch citizen Emilia Rivero, who said, “Horrific atrocities are taking place in Gaza. Joining this protest is the least we can do.”
The march was organized by PAX Netherlands, which reiterated its call for peace in Gaza. The group said it hopes for a genuine ceasefire soon, ensuring safety and humanitarian aid for civilians. However, its director, Rolien Sasse, expressed concern over Israel’s long-term commitment to halting what protesters described as genocide.
Demonstrators also criticized the Dutch government, accusing it of failing to take sufficient action to stop what they called Israeli war crimes in Gaza.
