Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, announced on Thursday that the compilation of the list of martyrs and injured from the July-August uprising is being fast-tracked for publication by the end of the year.
Speaking at a press briefing outside the Foundation’s office, Alam emphasized the importance of accuracy in the list, stating, “We want this list to be beyond question—not just today, but even 20 years from now.” He noted that verification of the details is underway, with plans to confirm the information for martyrs’ families by November.
Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, CEO of the Foundation, revealed that financial assistance for the injured has been increased from Taka 1 lakh to Taka 3 lakh, depending on the severity of injuries. He acknowledged that many individuals have incurred significant medical expenses and introduced a reimbursement process for those who have paid out of pocket. “This refund is separate from the Tk3 lakh assistance,” Snigdho clarified, urging individuals to submit receipts for verification.
Khandaker Zahirul Islam, Additional Secretary and Team Leader of the Special Cell on Mass Uprising, shared that the government is developing specific policies to aid in the rehabilitation of the injured. “Many who were hurt in the July movement face physical challenges that may impact their ability to return to work. To address this, the government plans to create economic and social institutions to facilitate employment opportunities for the injured and the families of martyrs,” he stated.
