Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has said she wants to share her Nobel Peace Prize with President Donald Trump. She expressed this intention during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News on Monday (5 January).
Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize last year, a prize for which Trump had also campaigned extensively, though it ultimately went to her.
Secret Trip to Oslo to Receive the Prize
At the time of the announcement, Machado was in hiding in Venezuela but secretly travelled to Oslo, Norway, to receive the award.
According to one official, had Machado rejected the Nobel Prize and declared that Trump deserved it instead, she might have become President of Venezuela today. Another official claimed that accepting the Nobel was her “mistake,” suggesting it distanced her from political power.
Machado: “We Want to Give It to Trump and Share It With Him”
Speaking about her proposal to share the prize, Machado said:
“I haven’t given him the prize yet. But personally, I want to say that the people of Venezuela believe this prize belongs to them. So we want to give it to Trump and share it with him.”
Her remarks have sparked renewed debate in Venezuela’s political circles about her strategy, symbolism, and relationship with international allies.
