Man Sentenced to Life for Machete Murder Outside Perth Service Station

In a stark reminder of the deadly consequences of violence, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for a brutal murder that unfolded in broad daylight outside a Perth service station. The courtroom heard how Imaddeen Sayed, driven by rage and concern over his brother’s involvement in a fight, wielded a machete in a moment of chaos that ended with a young man bleeding to death.

The incident occurred in July 2023 at the Landsdale 7-11 service station. Sayed, upon hearing his brother was engaged in a scuffle, located the pair in a fighting stance. The victim, 22-year-old Atbin Razavianroudbarden, responded by striking out at the brothers.

In a tragic turn, Sayed attacked Razavianroudbarden with a machete, slicing through his collarbone. The young man succumbed to his injuries, bleeding out at the scene. Justice Stephen Lemonis remarked that Razavianroudbarden was unarmed and that when Sayed arrived, the situation was “two on one.”

The judge described Sayed’s actions as “completely unreasonable” and emphasized that Sayed raised the machete above his head and struck without justification. While the court was not convinced Sayed intended to kill Razavianroudbarden, Justice Lemonis noted that his actions aimed to cause severe injury, which was always likely to endanger life.

Justice Lemonis underscored the importance of sending a firm message to deter weapon-related violence in public places. He stated that the use of weapons to resolve disputes will not be tolerated and highlighted the need for a strong punitive response to such conduct to prevent future tragedies.
