A judge at the ACT Supreme Court has condemned the actions of a Canberra man, describing them as “degrading” and “a gross breach of trust.” The 29-year-old admitted to drugging two individuals until they lost consciousness, then filming himself sexually assaulting them. Following his guilty plea to multiple charges including aggravated rape, aggravated assault, and capturing intimate images, he has been sentenced to over nine years in prison.
The disturbing case came to light when an 18-year-old woman, who had been living with the defendant in a tent, discovered footage showing herself unconscious and being raped in a hotel room. She revealed that the man had injected her with drugs beforehand, leaving her with no memory of the events and waking up feeling sore and extremely unwell.
Justice Belinda Baker described the video evidence as showing the man raping the woman multiple times. The investigation later uncovered a second victim, a man with whom the offender had previously been living. The second victim told police that the man had admitted to rendering him unconscious with drugs and filming the incident while they were hosting guests in a bedroom.
This chilling case has shocked the community and underscores serious concerns about trust, safety, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. The court’s strong condemnation reflects the gravity of the offences and the profound violation of the victims’ dignity and rights.
