Major Telstra Outage Hits Southern NSW: Thousands Without Service

1 min read

A widespread Telstra outage has left thousands of residents across southern New South Wales without internet and phone coverage, following a disruption at a key exchange site.

The blackout stretches from coastal towns like Nowra and Eden to inland communities including Bombala, impacting 99 base stations across the region. Telstra crews are currently heading to north Nowra to investigate the source of the issue.

While some customers have reportedly regained service, many remain disconnected, raising concerns about access to essential communication.

Telstra’s southern NSW regional manager, Chris Taylor, reassured the public that emergency calls to triple-0 should still go through. “If your landline is working, use it to contact emergency services,” he advised. “In areas with overlapping coverage from other providers, triple-0 calls should still connect. And if you have home internet, you can use Wi-Fi calling on your mobile.”

The outage has sparked frustration and uncertainty for affected residents, with many relying on mobile networks for work, safety, and daily communication.
