In a significant blow to Queensland’s illicit drug trade, nineteen individuals have been charged with a total of 271 offences linked to the alleged supply of cocaine, methylamphetamine, MDMA, cannabis, and heroin across the state. The operation underscores the ongoing commitment by law enforcement to dismantle organized crime networks fueling drug distribution.

The crackdown began in June 2024 when the Mount Isa Tactical Crime Squad launched Operation Whiskey Decker to target a suspected methylamphetamine trafficking syndicate operating in north-west Queensland. With collaboration from the Northern Major and Organised Crime Squad, authorities uncovered a sprawling network responsible for moving a range of illicit substances throughout Queensland.

Arrests were executed over a two-day period, May 20 and 21, across multiple locations including Mount Isa, Mackay, Ipswich, the Gold Coast, and Logan. Sergeant Nate Carlton, officer in charge of the Mount Isa District Tactical Crime Squad, highlighted the extensive resources committed to the operation. “We are dedicated to disrupting the trafficking and supply of drugs,” he stated. “We urge the community to continue assisting us by providing any information related to drug supply.”

Sergeant Carlton emphasized the importance of public cooperation, encouraging anyone with knowledge of drug use, distribution, or trafficking to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. The arrests include nine people in Mount Isa, four in Mackay, one in Ipswich, and four on the Gold Coast and in Logan, marking a crucial step in tackling Queensland’s ongoing drug crisis.
