Lionsgate Delays Release of Michael Jackson Biopic “Michael” to October 2025

Lionsgate has announced a rescheduling of the release date for “Michael,” the highly anticipated biographical film about pop legend Michael Jackson. Originally slated for April 18, 2025, the film will now debut on October 3, 2025, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, “Michael” stars Jaafar Jackson, the late icon’s nephew, in the lead role. The film also features an ensemble cast including Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Written by John Logan, the movie aims to provide a nuanced portrayal of Michael Jackson, delving into both his public persona and personal life.

The delay allows Fuqua and his team additional time to refine the project, which has been described as a labor of love for the director. Fuqua expressed his deep connection to Jackson’s life and music during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, emphasizing Jackson’s influence on his career.

In addition to “Michael,” Lionsgate has set Aziz Ansari’s comedy “Good Fortune” for release on October 17, 2025, just two weeks later. “Good Fortune” features a star-studded cast including Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, and Keke Palmer, with Ansari serving as both writer and director. The film promises a lighthearted, thought-provoking narrative contrasting with the dramatic tone of “Michael.”

Footage of “Michael” was previewed at CinemaCon in April, revealing that the biopic will include 30 of Jackson’s iconic songs. Producer Graham King noted the film’s extended runtime to fully explore Jackson’s artistic and personal journey, highlighting his genius, struggles, and global impact.

Fans eagerly awaiting the cinematic tribute to one of the greatest entertainers of all time will have to wait a bit longer, but the extended anticipation is expected to heighten interest in the film.
