Production has officially launched on Star Wars: Starfighter, the next cinematic chapter in the galaxy far, far away. Director Shawn Levy and lead actor Ryan Gosling have kicked off filming in the U.K., joined by a stellar cast that includes Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Flynn Gray, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings. Matt Smith and Mia Goth also join the lineup, with Jonathan Tropper penning the script.
To mark the occasion, Lucasfilm unveiled a striking first-look image of Gosling and Gray standing beside a landspeeder reminiscent of Luke Skywalker’s iconic ride from A New Hope. While plot details remain under wraps, the image hints at a major role for Gray’s character alongside Gosling.
Levy expressed deep enthusiasm for the project, calling it a dream come true both creatively and personally. He described Star Wars as a formative influence on his storytelling vision and praised the opportunity to collaborate with such a talented team.
Unlike previous entries, Starfighter promises a completely original storyline set in a previously unexplored era of the Star Wars universe. The film is slated to hit theaters on May 28, 2027-one year after The Mandalorian and Grogu makes its big-screen debut in 2026, marking the franchise’s return to cinemas since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
With Gosling also serving as executive producer alongside Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen, anticipation is already building for what could be a bold new direction in the Star Wars saga.
