Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser, today called on government employees to refrain from further protests until a high-level committee, recently formed to review the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, submits its report.
The committee, established on June 4 with the law adviser as its convener, is tasked with engaging with the protesting parties and making recommendations to the government. Its aim is to review the ordinance and address the concerns raised by government employees.
“We will hold our first meeting at 4 pm today. I have the demands presented by the government employees. We will decide which demands will be considered and how,” Dr. Nazrul stated.
He assured that once the committee determines its course, it will submit a report to the Council of Advisors as soon as possible. “We will submit our report or proposal. We are not authorized to make decisions,” he clarified.
Regarding the ordinance itself, Dr. Nazrul explained that he was abroad during its formulation and was not directly involved. “I can only say that the government did not create the ordinance with any bad intent,” he said.
He also acknowledged that, even if the law was not enacted with malicious motives, those affected might perceive it as a tool of harassment.
