The Tasmanian Labor Party has announced it will double its pledge to establish free general practitioner clinics if it wins next weekend’s snap election. Originally, the party proposed setting up five government-operated clinics in health hubs across the state, inspired by similar initiatives at the federal and state levels.
However, at the official campaign launch in Devonport, party leader Dean Winter revealed the plan now includes ten clinics. He expressed surprise at the strong support for the TassieDoc initiative, sharing that doctors have reached out eager to participate and community members are calling for accessible healthcare.
Winter emphasized that the party aims to ensure all Tasmanians, regardless of where they live, can access free doctor appointments.
