Kremlin Warns Middle East Is “On Fire” as Iran War Expands and Global Economic Risks Mount

2 min read

The Kremlin has issued one of its starkest assessments yet of the rapidly widening Iran conflict, saying the war is escalating both geographically and economically, and that the entire Middle East is now “on fire” as a result of U.S. and Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic.

The comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump posted an expletive‑laden message on Easter Sunday threatening to strike Iran’s power plants and bridges on Tuesday if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor.

Asked by Reuters about Trump’s remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow had seen the statements but preferred not to respond directly. Instead, he underscored the severity of the situation.
“We note that the level of tension in the region is growing and continues to grow,” Peskov said. “In fact, the entire region is on fire. These are all very dangerous and negative consequences of the aggression that was unleashed against Iran.”

Peskov added that the conflict’s geography has expanded, and the world is now witnessing “very, very negative consequences for the global economy” as the crisis deepens.

With the Strait of Hormuz a chokepoint for nearly a fifth of global oil and LNG shipments at the centre of the standoff, analysts warn that any further escalation could send shockwaves through energy markets and global trade.
