Kohli and Rohit May Retire from ODIs This Year, 2027 World Cup Dream Fading

1 min read

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ambition to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup appears to be slipping away. After stepping down from Test and T20 formats to focus solely on one-day cricket, both players are now reportedly considering retirement from ODIs within the year.

Sources close to the Indian team suggest that neither Kohli nor Rohit features in the long-term plans for the 2027 World Cup. The Indian cricket board has yet to confirm whether the two senior players will be part of the squad for the tournament, and the limited number of upcoming ODI series has made selection even more challenging.

Both players had shown interest in participating in India’s recent tour of England, but were not included in the squad. This exclusion, along with internal discussions, has fueled speculation that their time in international cricket may be nearing its end.

If the reports hold true, India could be preparing for a major shift in leadership and experience, marking the end of an era for two of its most celebrated cricketers.
