BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka early Thursday for a scheduled medical examination, according to party officials and her personal physician.

The former prime minister left her residence in Gulshan at 11:40pm on Wednesday and arrived at the hospital at 12:20am on Thursday, 16 October. Party media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed her admission, noting that it was part of her routine health monitoring.

Her personal physician, Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, who also serves on the BNP Standing Committee, said the visit was arranged under the advice of her medical board. He emphasized that the admission was precautionary and part of her scheduled examinations.

Khaleda Zia, who has long been suffering from multiple health complications including arthritis, diabetes, and liver-related issues, last visited Evercare Hospital on 28 August for medical tests. Doctors have been keeping her under close observation for several years, and her health remains a matter of national attention.

Security and Political Context

Tight security was reported around the hospital premises during her arrival. As a three-time former prime minister and current BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia remains a central figure in Bangladesh’s political landscape despite her limited public appearances due to illness.

Her health has often been a subject of political debate, with BNP leaders repeatedly urging the government to allow her to seek advanced treatment abroad. For now, doctors are expected to conduct a series of tests before deciding whether she will be discharged later in the day or kept under observation.
