Actress Kate Beckinsale has ignited controversy after alleging that she was fired by her agent for liking a social media post calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The claims surfaced in a series of comments she posted and later deleted under an Instagram video promoting Mark Ruffalo’s new film Palestine 36, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Beckinsale, 52, wrote that shortly after she interacted with a post condemning violence against civilians and supporting a ceasefire, her agent terminated their relationship. She contrasted her experience with that of Mark Ruffalo, 58, who has publicly expressed similar views but, she suggested, did not face repercussions.
“I guess having a penis in Hollywood really counts for a lot,” she wrote, pointing to what she described as a gender‑based double standard in the industry.
Beckinsale also said Ruffalo did not respond when she contacted him privately about the situation.“I was fired in two sentences after 12 years of friendship with my agent and yours,” she wrote, adding that the agent was aware of her personal struggles at the time.
The comments were removed soon after they appeared, and neither Ruffalo nor the agency involved has publicly responded. The situation has sparked broader discussion about political expression in Hollywood, professional repercussions, and whether industry figures face unequal treatment based on gender or profile.
