Leaders and activists from July Unity, a coalition comprising 110 anti-fascist organizations, staged a symbolic coffin and torch procession in Dhaka on Wednesday night to demand the implementation of the July Declaration and urgent reforms across state institutions.

The march started around 8:30 pm from in front of Science Lab City College and proceeded toward Shahbagh. Participants carried a coffin draped in the national flag and chanted slogans such as “Down with Mujibism, long live the revolution,” “Why the attack in Gopalganj? Give answer, interim,” and “July Unity is essential justice and reform.”

The demonstration also served as a protest against the recent attack on July activists in Gopalganj.

Speaking at the conclusion of the march, AB Zubayer, an organizer of July Unity, explained the significance of the coffin. “This coffin symbolizes our protest. Last year on this day, our comrade Abu Saeed and others sacrificed their lives resisting tyranny. Their dreams for a just and discrimination-free Bangladesh remain unfulfilled. Today’s procession is a reminder of our ongoing commitment to that struggle.”
