An alliance of organizations called ‘July Oikyo,’ formed to commemorate the July uprising, organized a rally on Monday titled ‘March for July Revives,’ which marched from the Jatiya Press Club to Shahbagh on Tuesday morning.
During the rally, they demanded a fascism-free mass media, the trial of what they termed the “mass killer and Indian proxy Hasina,” and the immediate announcement of the July Charter and Proclamation.
AB Zubayer, an organizer of the alliance, emphasized their commitment to revive the spirit of the July uprising. “Where is the sense of responsibility among those who have taken responsibility by standing on the blood of thousands of martyrs? They cannot fulfill our basic needs, fail to implement reforms, and have not conducted a proper trial for mass killings. Even after a year, they have yet to announce the July Proclamation. What is the purpose of the interim government?” he questioned.
He criticized the current interim authority, stating, “They initially tried, but lost their way after falling under the influence of so-called civil society figures. They have drifted away from the July spirit, and the old system remains in place. There is still time give recognition to the July mandate, hold a fair election, and step down.”
Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad condemned the appointment of pro-Awami League officials as Deputy Commissioners, alleging corruption and the rehabilitation of fascist collaborators. “Just as the Awami League monopolized the Liberation War, now ‘Chhatra Shokti’ has monopolized the 24 July uprising preventing it from becoming a mass movement. Boycott those who have turned July into a business,” he urged.
He further demanded constitutional recognition of the July Declaration and announced plans for a month-long program to mobilize support for their cause.
